Borrowing Deadlines and End-of-Semester Due Dates

Thanksgiving break is almost upon us. As the semester is winding down, please remember that research time is short. If there are items that you would like to borrow from other (non-FDU) libraries, the last day to submit those requests is this Friday!

Nov. 23rd is the deadline for making interlibrary loan requests for books. Article requests may continue, as there are no due dates for those (they are yours to keep).

For requests from FDU, you have a couple more days - Monday 11/26 is the last day to submit requests to borrow books from FDU libraries.

Lastly, all books (or videos, etc.) that you have borrowed, whether they belong to CSE, FDU, or some other library, must be returned by Friday, 12/7. Bring them to the front desk, or drop them in our return box just outside the main library entrance.

Which Careers database is right for you?

Vault Online Career Library vs. Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center

Envision Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center as the Occupational Outlook Handbook for young people who are anticipating their first professional job. This online database highlights more than 2000 jobs in 93 industries. Vault Online Career Library covers only 53 occupations and 40 industries - does this mean Ferguson can be a better choice?

Comparatively, each database presents information in a different format. If you are looking for an overview of the industry, job characteristics, salary ranges or tracing career paths, then try Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center. This online tool also enables you to track the best city for a job or where industries are booming. Vault Online Career Library, on the other hand, will provide company snapshots and highlight strengths and drawbacks of being employed by a company. Browse employees’ survey responses about various issues such as workplace diversity or corporate culture in a specific company.

If you are planning to do an internship, learn more about careers, or add some interesting facts to a research paper, take the opportunity to explore Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center AND Vault Online Career Library. Both databases cover key topics - resumes, interviews, internships and searching for a career - but their format and content may vary.

In Vault Online Career Library, find an internship by state and industry, and narrow down by number of interns, education level, or pay/credit. Vault offers in-depth guides on an array of topics such as resumes, letters, interviews, starting your own business, plus more (you may need to update your computer to Adobe 7.x (Digital Edition) in order to download).

Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center will provide you with an overview and some historical facts about these topics in a short essay format: e.g., how volunteering and internships may further your career. In Ferguson’s Skills section, learn about teamwork, ethics and etiquette in the workplace or how to gain the professional edge. For psychology students, the information on career assessment tests can be used as a starting point to Tests in Print or Mental Measurements Yearbook.

Now is your opportunity to explore the many features and resources available in both databases. You can connect to either database anytime, day or night, on or off campus. Find them via the Databases by Subject page - look under Career Information - or, access via the links below:
