New E-Journals Collections from Sage and ACS

Mahoney Library has 2 new collections of full text journals online.

The first is quite large - around 450 scholarly and trade journals - and offers content across all disciplines. Sage Premier Journals is a great collection, with full text from 1996 through the present. Sage covers the following areas:

Humanities: Area Studies, Language Studies, Music, Religious Studies
Life Sciences: Biochemistry, Endocrinology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology
Medicine: Nursing Science, Psychiatry, Public Health, Geriatrics, Critical Care and more
Physical Sciences: Computer Science, Engineering, Materials Science
Social Sciences: Anthropology, Communications, Criminology, Economics, Education, Information Science, Management, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology

Our second new addition to our online journals collection will appeal most to those in the sciences. We now subscribe to 9 online journals from the American Chemical Society. These 9 journals were transferred from print to electronic subscriptions, making them more accessible to the campus community.

Both of these E-journal collections are available on the Databases by Subject and Databases, A-Z pages. Take a look when you get a chance and tell us what you think in the comment box below.

Study of Spirituality in Higher Education

The Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA has been studying the developments and patterns of spirituality and religiousness of college students since 2003.

A recent report indicates a pattern of spiritual growth among many students between their freshman and junior years of college: http://www.spirituality.ucla.edu/news/Spirituality_on_Campus_release_12.18.07.pdf

For additional information from the 5-year study, see http://www.spirituality.ucla.edu/news/index.html for news releases, and http://www.spirituality.ucla.edu/publications_reports/index.html for published journal articles.

Return books, avoid fines and holds

Please remember to return any items that you have borrowed before you leave for the semester break. Overdue books or late fines can cause a hold to be placed on your student account. This can delay your grades or transcripts, and hold up the registration process for next semester.

You can return books anytime, even when we’re closed! Use the drop-box outside the main library entrance.

ProQuest databases unavailable for 12 hours this weekend…

ProQuest will be installing an update to their system, designed to enhance the Dissertations & Theses database.  Since scholars are increasingly providing supplemental digital materials - i.e., audio, video, spreadsheets, etc. - with their dissertation or thesis, this update will make it possible to access those materials within the ProQuest interface.

This update will be installed on Saturday, Dec. 15th starting at 10:00 pm, and will finish at approximately 10:00 am on Sunday, Dec. 16th. During these 12 hours, all ProQuest databases will be inaccessible.

This includes: ABI/Inform, Banking Information Source, Hoover’s Company Records, Research Library, Newspapers, Dissertations & Theses, GenderWatch, Criminal Justice Periodicals Index, and MLA International Bibliography.
