Banking Industry Research at Mahoney Library

Imagine the following scenario:

It’s late at night and you’re brainstorming for a topic to write about for your business class. The bibliography is due tomorrow. Exhausted, you come up with the idea to write about the problems within the banking industry. That seems too broad, so you focus on the lending crisis of two mortgage giants, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

While outlining, you realize the articles you found in the New York Times will not be enough, since your instructor requires articles from scholarly or trade publications. As you browse the library website, you find the Databases by Subject page. There are so many business databases listed, so which one is best for this topic?

Banking Information Source (ProQuest) provides full-text articles (1971 to present) on the trends in the banking and financial services industry. Try searching for “Fannie Mae and Risk Management” and you’ll find full-text articles from publications including Journal of Financial Services Research, Mortgage Banking and ABA Banking Journal

If you need to go back to that article in the Times, simply click on the Newspapers link above your results list. Also note the Reference Report link for other banking topics. Feel free to print out your articles, e-mail or export them into RefWorks. Banking Information Source, like other ProQuest databases, can format your citations in APA or MLA style.
