The Sociology poster presentations have become an annual campus event and provide one of the highlights of the fall semester here in Mahoney Library.

Carleen Shorey explains her research on the effects of a father's presence or absense on childhood development to a group of students
The presentation posters provided substantive information, colorful graphics and charts and handouts for each poster were provided.

Sociology professors (L-R): Dr. Anne Langan, Dr. Mary Chayko and Dr. Ellen Desmond (Faculty Emerita, Sister of Charity)
On hand were Drs. Mary Chayko and Anne Langan of the Sociology Department, and Dr. Ellen Desmond (SC), faculty emerita of the Sociology Department and the Gerontology Program.
They were quite pleased with both their students’ work and the support of the campus community.

Lauren Brown discusses her topic, gender and classroom participation, with another student and with Sr. Francis Raftery
All who attended came away very impressed by the students’ work and by each presenter’s knowledge of her topic and her willingness to respond to comments and questions, including those put forward by faculty members outside of the sociology department.
If you missed this year’s opening, the posters will remain on display in the study area of the Periodicals Room until the Thanksgiving break.
Below is a listing of the students who participated in this year’s poster presentations, along with the subjects of their research. Be sure to stop over to see their posters. Congratulations on a job well done!
