APA Style Guide, updated with new guidelines

The American Psychological Association has issued new guidelines related to electronic sources, including wikis, blogs, video clips, podcasts, as well as e-journals and articles from library databases.

Mahoney Library has developed a guide that reflects the new guidelines for online sources, as well as the general guidelines for print sources. To access the guide, click Instruction & Tutorials from the library’s home page, then click Format Papers & Citations and look for the APA style heading.

View the Mahoney Library APA Style Guide (pdf)

The guidelines for books and physical media remain the same. The Publication Manual of the APA, 5th edition (REF 808.06615 P96AP), is still the most current source for citing print sources and DVDs, videotapes or other physical media.

For further information on citing electronic resources, see the APA Style Guide to Electronic References (2007, REF 808 A639e), available in the library reference room.

Free Webinars for LexisNexis, RefWorks and EBSCOhost 2.0

LexisNexis Academic
You may have noticed that the LexisNexis search interface has significantly changed over the last year. Lexis covers a wide range of sources, with current information and statistics that you will not find elsewhere. If you regularly research news, business, legal and government topics, you might consider viewing a training webinar in your area of interest. There is a general training session, a session on Finding Sources, a session targeted for business research, and another targeted specifically for legal research. Check the dates and sign up at http://www.lexisnexis.com/academicwebseminars/.

More tips on using the new Lexis are available on the LexisNexis wiki: http://wiki.lexisnexis.com/academic/index.php?title=Main_Page.

RefWorks
CSE has recently licensed RefWorks, a web-based research management tool for tracking and citing your sources. Free introductory and advanced webinars are offered by the company. RefWorks also offers a webinar on the ‘RefShare’ sharing feature of RefWorks, as well as a ‘RefWorks in 15 minutes’ webinar for those who want a quick introduction or for faculty who want to be able to inform their students. Check the dates available and sign up at http://www.refworks.com/content/webinars/default.asp.

Information on accessing and using RefWorks at CSE can be found on the Mahoney Library website: http://www.cse.edu/index.php?id=2347

EBSCOhost 2.0
In July EBSCO will be releasing a completely redesigned search interface for their databases. Our EBSCO databases include Academic Search Premier, ATLA Religion, CINAHL, Education Research Complete, PsycINFO, etc. View the new interface and learn how it will work with your favorite database. Sign up for a webinar at http://support.ebscohost.com/ebscohost2/training.php.

More information, including screenshots and tutorial, is available on Ebsco’s support site: http://support.ebscohost.com/ebscohost2/index.php.

Deadlines for Student InterLibrary and InterCampus Loans

As the end of the semester approaches, students should be aware of two deadlines for requesting materials from other libraries.

If you need to borrow books that neither CSE nor Fairleigh Dickinson University owns, the last day to make an InterLibrary Loan Book Request is Monday, April 21st. If you have any questions about InterLibrary Loans, please contact Robert Waks at 973-290-4240.

If you wish to borrow a book from one of the FDU libraries (an InterCampus Loan), you must submit the request via the CoolCatNJ Catalog by Friday, April 25th. If you wish to borrow the book in person at one of FDU’s libraries, you also must do so by Friday, April 25th.

If you need to get a copy of a journal article from another library, you may continue to make these requests - there is no cut-off point.

Students should return all library materials (whether owned by CSE, FDU or an outside library) by Friday, May 2nd. Any student borrowing needs beyond that date will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the Circulation Supervisor, between the hours of 9:00am-4:30pm only. Call the circulation desk at 973-290-4237 with any questions.
